Aussie facts and the like...

It's a sunday morn, just after watching the Spongebob Squarepants movie. Was at a good trad session yesterday, some good heads at it. I've got wind of a few trad sessinos happening every week, so that'll keep me occupied when I'm not working. I just got word taht I'm not working again til next Friday, I'd prefer to start sooner, but that's the way it goes! It'll gimme some time to check out these sessions anyway.
OK, a few facts about the country, for anyone back home that's curious about things here.
Well I'll start by saying Melbourne has 3.5 million people give or take, a big city by any nations standards. Why does everything close all the time?
Why?
Why if I want to go to get food after 6, the whole city is closed down?
Restaurants even close at six.
Most cafes close all day sunday, and many of them close on saturday too!
Smeels just brought a good point up, every closes.
Prices, here's a great one.
To get things in perspective, one euro equals $1.50, so its two thirds of the dollar price to get euro!
I was informed by everyone before I came out that Australia was half the price of home.
False.
This is a warning for all who budget to that end.

Just incase you don't believe me, I wouldn't, when everyone else says it's cheaper, here are a few prices for you to compare:

The most important of all, the price of a pint: a whopping 7-7.50! thats averaging about 5 euro a pint. some beers I've got (never again) are 7 dollars a bottle!
Vodka and dash of coke - ranges from 5.00 to 7 bucks
Crate of 24 beers ranges from 30-60dollars
Smokes:
25g pack of tobacco - 14dollars
50g pack of tobacco - 26.50
20 cigarettes - 10dollars
25 cigarettes(the standard size out here) - 12-13dollars
Petrol( now this one is cheaper) - ranging from 1.09 to a whopping 1.74 is what we've paid.
Sliced pan: average 3dollars, although one brand is just over 2bucks, but then again others are 4.50
Eggs: dozen 3.50
Milk: two litres is around 3.50 but you can find cheaper some places, but not by much.
Six pack of yogurts: 6 dollars
500g of coffee: cheapest 10 dollars
I'm told an ounce of weed is 270dollars :) Drugs are bad though
cheese: about a dollar per 100g
Tomatoes: we've paid a dollar per tomatoe in the city. that's bullshit.
Cereal: ranges from 3dollars for homebrand cornflakes to 9dollars a box
Chocolate: the price of a normal bar of chocolate is 2.50.
Two dollars and fifty cents for a Mars bar.
And would you believe they are able to look you in the eye when they say it too.
A Taz bar (which is around 20cent at home) are 1.30 here.
Washing powder: about 9dollars for 20 washes.
Fruit: fora country tath produces so much fruit, it's outrageous the price of them.
I've seen single pieces of fruit back in Perth for 9-12 dollars, granted they were exotic lookin' yokes, but still.
Mobile phone charges: 1.65 a text to home. about 3.50 to get connected for 30seconds to a number back home. Texts here range from 18c to 1dollar, and around the same per minute for phone calls. this is for two different networks, so otheres could be cheaper.
Taxi: is 5dollars before you move, in the city, and about 5 dollars per mile. I was unfortunate enough to get one in my time out here, it was badly needed though....hehe
Here are some prices you won't see at home:
Live strip tease "Peep shows": are advertised as two dollars (not verified by us)
Strip joint entry fee: 15dollars - vodka and sprite inside - 12 dollars
Kangaroo meat: 5-6 bucks for an average steak size.
Driving without a reg: on the spot 500 dollars
Surfboards: second hand boards can go for as low as 200bucks, but are usually pretty bet up. A new one ranges from 500 dollars up to 1600 for the bigger boards.

Well I think that's enough info for ye ta take in for now.

Ok, I stopped reading after the first item on your list.

New packing plan:

Empty all clothes sleeping bags, basically all essential items, load up with beers & spirits & anything else intoxicating.

Now I'm good to go.

All the breast
